A+ Environmental Solutions, LLC

Outlawed in the late 1970s, lead-based paint is commonly found in older buildings and homes. A+ Environmental Solutions, LLC (AES), offers treatment or abatement of lead and lead-based paint. Abatement methods include paint removal by hand scrapping, chemical stripping, needle guns, and scarifiers. AES can remove lead paint from residences, child care centers, schools, government facilities, and industrial buildings. Our lead technicians are trained, certified, and registered with the US Department of Health Services and the State of California.

What is Lead?

Lead is a toxic metal that was used for many years in products found in and around the home. A common source of toxicity is deteriorating lead-based paint applied prior to the mid to late 1970s. Exposure to lead may cause a range of health effects. Lead poisoning occurs when a person swallows or inhales lead in any form. Children six years and under are at the greatest risk. Chipping lead-based paint located where children are present can be a serious hazard. Children may be tempted to eat these colorful flakes of paint. The chips may even taste sweet, and encourage more consumption. The result can be damage to a child’s brain, nerves, and many other parts of the body. The scope of harm can include behavioral problems, learning disabilities, mental retardation, seizures, and death.

A home built prior to the mid 1970s was likely painted with lead-based paint. This may not necessarily represent a serious hazard, however, as long as the lead-based paint is well-adhered. This reduces the risks, as well-adhered paint is not in a state of deterioration, and difficult for a child to ingest. In an older home, look for paint that is peeling, chipping, cracking, or chalking. If this is found, call AES at 831-476-9200 to discuss options.

Lead-based paint may also be a hazard when it is found on surfaces that children can access or that get a lot of wear. These areas include:

  • windows and window sills
  • doors and door frames
  • stairs, railings, and banisters
  • porches and fences

Lead dust can form when lead-based paint is scraped, sanded, or heated. DO NOT scrape, sand, or heat paint that might contain lead. This can result in long-term health problems for the worker that day, and the residents of the home for years to come.

Lead dust also forms when painted surfaces bump or rub together. Lead chips and dust can get on surfaces and objects that children and adults touch. Settled lead dust can re-enter the air when people vacuum, sweep, or walk through it.
