A+ Environmental Solutions, LLC (AES) has established four strategically-placed soil and groundwater monitoring wells in Santa Cruz, California, in order to help determine soil and groundwater quality trends over time, and to calculate an accurate groundwater flow direction and gradient.

In 2010, as part of an investigation for the City, potentially contaminated soil (an oily sheen and the odor of fuel) was reportedly observed by a local geotechnical firm within a soil boring. In order to identify potential contamination to soil and groundwater, and to determine the type of chemical impacts, if any, the City of Santa Cruz hired AES to conduct a Limited Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA).

In the spring of 2011, AES prepared a Phase II ESA and report. During the summer months, we were asked to develop a Work Plan, and then to install, develop, and sample a series of four groundwater monitoring wells to help determine soil and groundwater quality trends over time, and calculate an accurate groundwater flow direction and gradient. The placement of each monitoring well was based on the location of important site features and the assumed groundwater flow direction. AES will continue to sample the wells quarterly for a minimum of one year.
